How long should you keep a shared photo album open after the event?
Most uploads do not happen during the party. Knowing when they do arrive changes when you should close the album.

It is tempting to think the album does its job during the party and can be closed when the lights come on. In practice, that is when the most important part is just getting started.
When the photos actually arrive
| Period | What usually happens |
|---|---|
| During the event | A steady trickle, mostly from guests sitting down between moments |
| The next morning | The biggest wave: guests go through their camera roll and pick favorites |
| The first week | Late arrivals, videos sent on Wi-Fi, guests who were reminded |
| Weeks two to four | A few gems from people who finally found time |
| After a month | Rare uploads — but sometimes the one photo you were missing |
The peak is not at the party; it is the day after. Closing the album at the end of the night means losing the largest batch of photos.
Our practical recommendation
Keep uploads open for at least two weeks, send one reminder the day after the event, and only close when a few days pass with no new uploads.
- Weddings: a month. Guests are spread out, many travel home, and videos arrive late.
- Birthdays and showers: one to two weeks is usually enough.
- Corporate events: a week, then close so the archive is final for marketing.
- Graduations and reunions: keep it open longer — people share old photos too.
Closing uploads is not deleting the album
With Fotografou you can pause uploads at any time from the dashboard. The page stays online and tells guests the album is closed — no error messages, no broken link. If someone asks to send one more photo, reopen it for a day. The publication covers a full year, so there is no cost to waiting.
And after the year?
When the publication ends, the public page goes offline. Your files do not go anywhere: they are in your own Google Drive, in original quality, and they stay there. There is nothing to export and nothing to rescue. If you want the page back — for an anniversary, say — renewing keeps the same address and the same QR code. See pricing for details.
A small ritual that brings in more photos
Before closing, send a final message: "We are closing the album on Sunday — last chance to send your favorites." Deadlines work. It is often the reminder that brings in the photos people meant to send and forgot.
